Anthony has done a great job of capturing the information a new or intermediate photographer needs to get into the business and start selling their work to take their business to the next level. Anthony also takes the time to explain each type of photography and more importantly how to determine if you are a beginner, intermediate or expert in a given area. I'm sure that there are better books on the subject that cover more details of legal contracts, etc. but this book should be part of any new photographer's bookshelf. As always, Anthony provides excellent content at a fair price.

I enjoyed the text and found it quite informative. It presented a fairly good overview of the pricing conundrum for 'early entry photographers wanting to be a pro photographer type', which I am not. The text was quite informative even for someone like myself. I do my own photography, processing and printing with some small number of sales to friends. I could never look at being a working photographer..always responsive to others needs, which would, for me, be drudgery, yet the information will have some value even for folks like me - pour a cup of coffee, grab a danish and enjoy the read.

I'm only half way finished but I can tell you this book is just as good if not better than all the videos Anthony does, he gives so much to the photography community for free and does not ask much in return. Thank you Anthony for all the hard work you have done for us.....

I really enjoyed the no nonsense structure of this guide. It doesn't beat around the bush. The two subjects I was hoping to see were product or real estate pricing. That would have pushed it over the top for me. Otherwise, it was on point. Highly recommend!

A must read . What a great way to learn the background of how important songs from the past were written both words and music other than The Star Spangled Banner as we all should know..I highly recommend this book and also written by Ace are the back grounds of some Christmas music.

About the Author

Beau Keyte is the founder of Branson, Inc., a management consulting company focused on the application of lean transformation strategies and techniques. Beau began his "lean" consulting career in the mid-80s at the Ford Motor company. He has clients in wide variety of industries such as automotive, healthcare, financial services, pharmaceutical, paper, chemical, refrigeration, distribution, and transportation. Beau has also successfully tied lean initiatives to the "bottom line" through the application of lean cost management techniques.In addition to assisting companies in implementing lean strategies, Beau also trains organizations in a variety of public and private settings. He is currently a faculty member and instructor for the Lean curriculums at the Lean Enterprise Institute, the University of Michigan, Ohio State University, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), where he has assisted in the development and implementation of a consistent training program for use within small- and medium-sized manufacturers. Beau has co-authored the book, The Complete Lean Enterprise: Value Stream Mapping for Office and Administrative Processes, which received the Shingo Prize in 2005. Beau received a BSE and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Drew Locher is currently Managing Director for Change Management Associates. CMA provides various Business Improvement Consulting and Organizational Development services to industrial and service organizations. This book has been very helpful to my organization. It is clearly written and well-organized. Definitely helps with understanding how to tackle value-streaming concepts from an office perspective.

I highly recommend this work for anyone looking to improve the work they do in service or information industries. As corporate counsel for an education management organization, I do a good deal of work with school districts as well as legal departments. I have yet to see one that wouldn't benefit from The Complete Lean Enterprise. For non-traditional environments such as legal departments and school districts looking to benefit from proven lean practices, this book should be mandatory reading.

Occasional typographical errors and minor lapses in editing barely distract from the reading of this deceptively easy to understand treatment of Liberian English, which includes a succinct summary of rigorous linguistic analysis of Liberian English. Far from putting readers off though Sheppard opens a reader's mind to the patterns in and logical explanations of the adaptations of Standard English to conform to the style of speaking in Liberia English's underlying Niger-Congo linguistic environment—written in everyday language that scholars and ordinary readers alike can enjoy.Sheppard alerts his audience to the alternate phrasing of verb forms and the often colorful and vivid expressions and sayings speakers have developed in the unique English of Liberia.Surprisingly, some of the patterns in Liberian English and patterns of French are alike—though their linguistic origins are dramatically different—the dropping of the pronunciation of final consonants of words and the nasalization of preceding vowels in lieu of pronunciation of nasal consonants.Sheppard raises knowledgeable objections to subtle cultural biases against Liberian English by speakers of Standard English, sending readers to engage Liberians in conversation with a respect for the complex linguistic environment in which Liberian English evolved.Sheppard cautions his audience that a Liberian who very well knows and takes pride in a fluency in Standard English far from admiring a speaker's fluency in Liberian English may think that a speaker who chooses to speak in the vernacular views the Liberian as an unsophisticated rube and is "talking down"—an insult.A wonderful and valuable little book from Sheppard that indeed gives readers the means to "crack the code" of Liberian English.

I agree with the premise that "speaking", or more precisely, hearing, the language is key to understanding culture. I've not finished reading the book, but I have enjoyed what I have read, which is about one half of the book. I lived in Liberia for 3 1/2 years, 1985 - 1988, in two areas of the country that were both quite some distance in different directions from Nimba County where the author lived. I think at the end of the book that I am going to think that there is much more to be added to the definitions and proverbs, that perhaps the author needs more listening experience in other parts of the country, and I will be wondering if some of the words, phrases/idioms used in 1985-88 have by now evolved to meanings somehow different from what they were then. In his sequel, I think he should emphasize the importance of listening. :) But as I said I am very much enjoying the trip back to Liberia through reading his book.

I lived as a Peace Corps volunteer in Sinoe County for 3 years.We were never taught Liberian English, and my work required that I work in this language (too many other tribal languages in the area to learn one and use it throughout the county.). This author understands the language well and provides good insight into its logic. Wish I had this when I was there, as it would have helped me avoid some settling in problems. Thanks for this great contribution! .

Liberian English has evolved into its own Creole, on par with the spoken languages along the west African coast. In Cracking the Code, John Mark Sheppard gives a very useful history of the roots and development of "Liberian Vernacular English" and inadvertently exposes why so many Liberians today have difficulty mastering standard English. The dictionary and lexicon that form most of the book are also extremely useful for newcomers. All we need now is a standard orthography for Liberian English and we'll be set.

After having my own hard time understanding English in Liberia, I really appreciate the work that went into this guide. John adds some good background and explanations to the myriad ways to talk and speak in Liberia. It's extremely helpful and practical to solve some communication troubles before they begin.

It proved to be pretty much what I expected. We lived there for almost ten years as adults, but to truly get a grasp of the language and its nuances, you have to start as a child. I have known the author's parents for a number of years and know where he grew up. He took that life experience and with his later linguistics training, maps out the origins and regional variations of what is know Liberian Vernacular English. He includes guides on sentence structure and how pronunciation often heard there will differ for English learned in America or the UK. I wish I would have had something like this when we first arrived and even now it is helpful in restoring memories that are fading.

Author does a great job explaining the history and linguistic culture of Liberia.He obviously has invested many years immersing in the culture and language.It is a great guide for anyone who wants to learn this unique dialect of English and find out why things are the way they are in Liberia.

This book is worth every penny and more. I plan to get the hard copy. Helpful not only to foreigners but locals as well as anyone who has been out of Liberia for a while. Very funny as well as enlightening. First time I've read a dictionary from cover to cover.

Vygotsky was a genius! If you work with children or simply want to better understand human development I highly recommend this book. He blazed the trail with his theories, many of which are standard practice for early educators.

This book is very interesting and was somehow a mind opener for me. The book gives a good overview of the different approaches to the learning process which were available and discussed at the time. He explains the childs development not as simply a Newtonian deterministic process, but as mental and psychological processes in motion and change where the outcome often became different what had been predicted. It is amazing that Vygotsky could come up with these new and visionary ideas in Stalin`s Sovjet!

For people studying education, this book is essential. It is much more accessible than Piaget's works, and has so much relevance to the classroom because of Vygotsky's focus on language, and learning as a social experience. Dewey's Experience & Education is another personal favorite.

Seminal publication from Vygotsky. The text is a must for anyone involved in education.

While the book is full of theory that might discourage someone from reading it, it has an absolutly fantastic practical implacation worth the effort! The second half of this book, "Educational Implications" discusses the Zone of Proximal Development. Learning about this "Zone" plus the discussion regarding how children learn to read and write, tells those of us who really want to help children learn, ways to set-up an environment and activities to do it!!Don't let the theory scare you away, this is a MUST READ!

I needed this for a class. I wouldn't have bought it otherwise.

Alan W. Watts, who held both a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate of divinity, is best remembered as an interpreter of Zen Buddhism in particular, and of Indian and Chinese philosophy in general. Standing apart, however, from sectarian membership, he has earned the reputation of being one of the most original and “unrutted” philosophers of the twentieth century. Watts was the author of some twenty books on the philosophy and psychology of religion that have been published in many languages throughout the world, including the bestselling The Way of Zen. An avid lecturer, Watts appeared regularly on the radio and hosted the popular television series, Eastern Wisdom and Modern Life, in the 1960s. To sum this book up: Anxiety happens, it's unavoidable, there's nothing you can do about it - except realize there's nothing you can do about it so just relax and don't worry about it.

I know that had Alan Watts been live, and had he seen the title of this review, he would have possible stomped his foot on the ground or even slapped me into my senses while saying: "BUT THAT'S NOT THE POINT."And I understand why he would say that. I understood (albeit not perfectly) the message that he is trying to pass on. Watts is the most Eastern Westerner I know. His philosophies, particularly in this book, can lead into a metaphysical web that could leave you stuck indefinitely. At this same time, if you peel back the philosophical layers, which he helps you do at times, you will notice that the message, at its core, is always simple. He is begging the reader not to eliminate the ego, but to come to a full realization, a hyper awareness of sorts, that there is NO ego - that the ego, or the "I," is simply a figment of imagination. There is no method to achieve this hyper-awareness, no guide, no set of instructions, but only this imperative: "Look!"I may be just a tad bit too simplistic to fully grasp the significance of this, but I believe that at times I caught a glimpse of the implications of Watt's message. To live perfectly in the moment, to understand that the experience and the "experiencer" are one in the same just as a wave is not part of the ocean, but is the ocean, all of it - I can begin to fathom how one would be able to shed so much pretense and predispositions. Or not, I don't know.My personal opinion is that there are gems in this book, but as it is with all things, anything in excess is harmful. This book sells Eastern thought in its entirety, and I believe that no, Alan Watt's does not have the answer to the meaning of life (which he would probably agree to me saying) and I don't think you'll find in this book all the answers to your questions. It is a refreshing read though, at least it was for me. I really had to break down my mind, my prejudices, my perceptions and realize that my reality is truly the product of my own mind - and that I can change that, if I want to.In any case, a worthy read, but definitely not a book if you're looking for "10 Ways to Reduce Anxiety." It is rather an exhortation to awareness.

This is a delightfully fresh and direct book from Watts. I have been reading him on and off for the past 35+ years and this seems to me to be something of a breakthrough for/from him, really expressing a very clear experience of being in the moment. It is easy to read (large print, simple words), but the meaning is deep and profound, and he says it all in a way that is both clearly simple and yet playfully fresh. And he does this without a lot of cultural baggage (East or West), so making it especially powerful and approachable for modern readers (yet also remarkable in that he wrote this in 1951).Over and over he points out what is real (what we all know), and yet indescribable;"What is true and positive is too real and too living to be described, and to try to describe it is like putting red paint on a red rose." (p.76)"Indeed, every experience is in this sense new, and at every moment in our lives we are in the midst of the new and unknown. At this point you receive the experience without resisting it or naming it, and the whole sense of conflict between "I" and the present reality vanishes." (p.94)"The meaning of freedom can never be grasped by the divided mind. If I feel separate from my experience, and from the world, freedom will seem to be the extent to which I can push the world around, and fate the extent to which the world pushes me around. But to the whole mind there is no contrast of "I" and the world. There is just one process acting, and it does everything that happens.... No one fates and no one is being fated." (p. 122)And the way he finishes the book is perhaps best of all;"Discovering this the mind becomes whole; the split between I and me, man and the world, the ideal and the real, comes to an end. Paranoia, the mind beside itself, becomes metanoia, the mind with itself and so free from itself. Free from clutching at themselves the hands can handle; free from looking at themselves the eyes can see; free from trying to understand itself thought can think. In such feeling, seeing, and thinking life requires no future to complete itself nor explanation to justify itself. In this moment it is finished." (p. 152)And he could just as easily have said, in this moment it begins.

Maybe the single best Alan Watts book. If you get this book, and really get "It", and you will know if you really got "It", your search for "It" will be finished. For you will have realized that you are "It". Always have been, always will be.

I particularly love Watts when he was still a deeply thinking Christian. But all his books are great, especially for those of us who are interested in the real life of the spirit, but don't want to 'be' a Buddhist, a Christian or join anything.

Alan Watts writes a wonderful view of life. Touching on the understandings of Christianity and Zen Buddhism and how they approach the understanding of human life. Of particular interest to me was the philosophy of I and Me. Thinking about thinking is so fun too..... A book that is wonderful to understand nature and appreciate adventure in life inspirational. Dance like no one is watching and enjoy this book a wonderful read dont think too hard on it and its a fun insighful beautiful book some real key thoughts on leading a beautiful life.

Not sure how one can give a bad review to a book. If you did not like a book, it just means YOU did not like a book, it doesn't mean a book is bad. So... I did not like this book, because I just do not like and do not agree with ideas that author expressed in this book. It was neither inspirational, not educational for me. That, unfortunately, was the worst book I read last year. I saw no benefits in reading it. But... I know people who would love it, therefore, it was unregretfully gifted to a co-workers. Although book is not expensive, you may want to read some extracts from it, if you can find, before purchasing
